The Ming Aralia indoor bonsai tree, also called the polyscias futicosa, is a great tropical bonsai that brings with it a touch of the tropics. It looks somewhat different from standard bonsai, and some people say it even has an exotic appeal to it. While it may look somewhat fragile, it’s actually pretty easy to grow. Beginners will be able to keep it growing even if they don’t have much experience with bonsai. The Ming Aralia features fairly dense but also fairly delicate leaves that stand out in stark contrast to the rugged back. This actually makes the bonsai look more like an outdoor plant rather than an indoor one. However, don’t put it outside—the Ming Aralia is sensitive to the cold. This bonsai tends to mature slowly Read the rest of this entry »

How Shower Filters Work

Author: admin
December 30, 2009

A shower filter is a small filter that fits before your shower head, removing chlorine and other chemicals from your water, for softer skin and better health.  A typical shower filter contains thousands of granules off activated charcoal, which absorb chlorine, solvents, and other volatile chemicals from the water passing over them, while a more expensive unit might contain additional filter media, such as a copper/zinc mixture, to adjust the pH, soften the water, or remove a wider range of chemicals. I’ve been pretty ho-hum about magnetic name tags lately. For years I got them from the same company, and they all looked pretty much the same and after a while my employees lost them or threw them away and it was money down the drain. So what’s my point? Well, that you can invest in something a little more interesting and your workers may actually want to wear them. I know, it sounds impossible. But I’ve been through this over and over so thought to myself “What’s to lose?” Read the rest of this entry »

Mirrored sunglasses set an image.  For tiny babies and small children the image is of someone who looks lovingly at them as proven by the reflection they see.  For older kids it is an image of being cool and mysterious.  For older people it is pretty hard to say why they wear mirrored sunglasses. The Schilling Holly, or the ilex vomitoria schilling, is an outdoor bonsai tree. It is also sometimes called the Yaupon Holly, but no matter what name it goes by, it’s a very hardy and reliable bonsai that can grow in temperate zones seven through ten. This means that if you’re growing it in a colder environment, you’re going to need to give it some protection during the cold months. You can bring it into a cool garage or patio room during the really harsh months. The Schilling Holly features upright evergreen leaves and has interesting, irregular branches. These branches are an off gray color and feature little oval leaves that are have sawtooth like edges. The 1830 Napoleon Saber is a replica of the ones that were used by the fearless cavalry in Napoleon’s army.  Although its shape and looks is a close reminiscent of the 1860 Light Cavalry Saber it is by far much more effective and durable. This is a functional sword that cuts and slashes objects mercilessly.

This sword was functional enough to be used even after Napoleon’s reign and was a part of the Civil War. This weapon is meant for the trooper since its thrust is powerful enough to slash even the toughest of things. The curved blade is forged of 1055 carbon steel and is long while its point is wide full and extremely sharp. Read the rest of this entry »

A gorgeous brooch is one of the classiest of all silver jewelry types. Back in the deco years of the 1920s through the 1940s just about every woman wore an attractive pin on a jacket. I know my own mother often had a beautiful example on her winter coat. Styles do change, but I’m hoping the silver pin makes a comeback. Maybe I shouldn’t hold my breath, but I like to think that the prettiest styles eventually come back around for the younger generations to enjoy. If you like gold or silver animal jewelry, then some of these pretty dog, cat or horse pins might capture your fancy! Read the rest of this entry »

I have finally decided it’s time to get rid of all of my old plastic storage containers. Some of them were containers I had saved from foods I had purchased and others were plastic containers I had purchased over the years. A few I had purchased pretty recently when I should have known to get glass instead. Not only does the plastic stain and start to look pretty bad over time, but I’m concerned about the plastics slowly making their way into our foods. I’m smart about not microwaving in the containers, but why take a chance. So I’ve decided to purchase this great Pyrex 18 Piece Glass Food Storage Set. Read the rest of this entry »

We have a coffee maker that we’ve had for quite awhile. I think it had been a gift when we moved into our new home and we’ve used it nearly every day. It’s an 8-cup coffee maker and since we’re a family of coffee-drinkers there are days when we make more than one pot. Sometimes my husband likes to take a thermos with him in the morning, so that’s easily a two-coffee pot morning. I’ve been meaning to upgrade to a larger coffee maker for quite some time but since this one has been working well I never got around to it.  Then my husband took it upon himself to get a new Black & Decker 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker for Christmas.
